Merriwether Community Coalition is now an official nonprofit organization. It is now official, on September 12, 2012 the nonprofit incorporation papers signed by the Secretary of State, SC were received. We are now officially known as Merriwether Community Coalition and can claim the right of identification. Next steps, appoint a board of directors, nominate officers, complete by-laws, then work towards 501(c) 3 non profit status. Good things are happening. Blackwell said that it is hoped that public donations would be available to bring the community center back to life and that there is a possibility of establishing a fire station and EMS base on the property as well. Firefighters from Merriwether and the Westiside Fire Department spent a considerable amount of time clearing the overgrowth around the building and removing debris from the property. The acceptance of the property is expected to take place in October. "This is something very exciting for District 5 and I hope to see it come together." Councilman Bright said, "That's a nice place". ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In case you haven’t seen these in your travels, the billboards purchased by Community Action for a Safer Edgefield (the DUI Crash prevention coalition in Edgefield County) are now up!!! Both billboards are located in the southern part of Edgefield County, and they will be up for at least six months. Billboard #1 is located on Martintown Road near Gregory Lake Road at the Greg’s Gas Plus. Billboard #2 is located on Hwy 25 South between Stephens Road and Macedonia Road. Thank you for your assistance in selecting the messages on these billboards. One of the major goals for the these billboards is to get the word out that local law enforcement officers are out on the roads (doing public safety checkpoints, etc) looking for impaired drivers and other public safety issues.
